The mission of the Emphysema COPD Research Center (ECRC) at the University of Pittsburgh is to advance the understanding of emphysema and tobacco-related lung disease and to evaluate new therapies and devices for patients with emphysema or COPD. Our clinical and research philosophy revolves around the fact that all patients have a unique manifestation of the disease commonly known as COPD and thus may require a unique therapeutic regimen, specific to their own situation. Our on-going scientific studies assess and validate new techniques, medications and devices to assess outcome in COPD patients and studies investigating the genetic and molecular basis of COPD.
